With the Chinese community increasing dramatically, I think a Chinese firefighter gives them some comfort. They’re not used to seeing an Asian firefighter and when they see me I get a few stares!

Initially my mother was shocked, but after I talked to her about the excellent training and advancement opportunities the job provides, she has become a lot more comfortable. Both her and my father are enormously proud.

While the recruits course was very challenging, it was also extremely rewarding and now I’m equipped to handle anything the job can throw at me.

Like all firefighters, we’re here because we want to make a difference to our community.
