About Us

The Brigade has an establishment of 21 firefighters. Several members of the Brigade have have now had more than 25 years of service to their local community.

Cheviot is approximately 114kms north of Christchurch in the heart of North Canterbury and is part of the Hurunui District. Primarily a rural farming community, the surrounding area is a combination of river flats and rolling countryside. Near to Cheviot is the popular recreational area of Gore Bay. Rich in history, Cheviot Museum boasts one of the finest collection of Moa bones which were found in the Cheviot Hills. In the late 1800's Cheviot became the first large holding in New Zealand to be divided into smaller holdings for settlers by the Government. Situated on State Highway 1, it is a popular stopping point for those heading north, or coming south.
